FiveM is one of the most demanding GTA V modifiers. Between server scripts, texture mods, custom vehicles, and MLOs (custom interiors), FiveM can make mid-range PCs struggle hard. But most of the issues can be solved at the operating system level, not the hardware.
Why does FiveM crash more than base GTA V?
FiveM loads additional resources that GTA V alone wouldn't have:
- Lua and JS scripts: each server has dozens or hundreds of scripts running simultaneously
- Asset streaming: custom textures, models, and sounds being loaded constantly
- Network synchronization: more entities to sync than regular GTA Online
- Heavy MLOs: custom interiors with complex geometry
All of this overloads the CPU, RAM, and Windows I/O subsystem. And an unoptimized Windows amplifies each of these problems.
FiveM/GTA V settings for better performance
- Texture quality: Normal (not Normal High, that doubles VRAM usage)
- Shader quality: Normal
- Shadows: Normal or Soft
- Render distance: depends on the server — on servers with many vehicles, reduce it
- MSAA: disabled (use FXAA if you want antialiasing without the heavy cost)
- Vsync: disabled
- FPS limit: 60 or 120 (FiveM doesn't need high FPS like CS2)
FiveM-specific issues and how to fix them
Crash "Disconnected: Timed out"
Usually caused by network instability or server timeout. If it happens frequently, check your connection, flush DNS, and disable QoS on your router.
Stuttering when entering MLOs
This is the most common issue: FiveM needs to load all interior assets at once. PCs with HDDs suffer badly here — an SSD makes a huge difference. But even with an SSD, a poorly optimized system can cause stutters due to high DPC Latency during I/O operations.

FPS drops in busy areas (city, events)
Many players and vehicles overload AI and physics processing. Reduce pedestrian and vehicle render distance in GTA V's advanced settings.
Results with professional optimization
UPBOOST's PC optimization for FiveM focuses on:
- Reducing DPC Latency to eliminate stutters during MLO loading
- I/O optimization for faster asset loading
- Process priority configuration for FiveM
- Network tweaks for a more stable connection to servers
FiveM clients report no more stutters in MLOs and more consistent FPS in busy areas after optimization. The session is done remotely in up to 20 minutes, with you watching live via Discord.
