FiveM Textures Not Loading: Blurry City and Missing Detail

Flat buildings, textureless clothing and blurry ground in FiveM? That has a name and a specific cause. Here is the fix and the two settings that help most.

You join the city and it looks wrong: buildings flat like plastic, clothing with no detail, blurry ground, unreadable signs. Sometimes it loads after a while, sometimes it stays that way the whole session.

The community calls it texture loss, and the cause is almost always the same: video memory ran out before the city finished loading.

Why it happens in FiveM and not vanilla GTA V

Vanilla GTA V was calibrated to fit in a specific amount of memory. RP cities add clothing, vehicles, buildings and custom maps — content the game never anticipated.

When that total exceeds what your graphics card holds, the game has to choose what to drop. And it drops texture quality, because that is the only thing it can reduce without breaking the game.

That is why the symptom looks like this: the building is still there, the clothing is still there — just without the detail.

The two settings that help most

Extended Distance Scaling at 0%

Found in ESC → Settings → Advanced Graphics.

This option draws very distant objects and is among the biggest consumers of video memory. Dropping it to zero frees memory for what is near you — which is what you actually see.

Highest-impact adjustment against texture loss.

High Detail Streaming While Flying off

Same settings area.

It exists to keep detail high while flying, and it reserves memory for that permanently — including when you are on foot downtown. In RP you almost never fly, so it is memory spent for nothing.

Extended Texture Budget matched to your card

In ESC → Settings → Graphics, at the bottom of the list. It defines how much memory the game may use for streamed content.

The rule by GPU memory: 50-60% up to 2 GB, 70-80% at 4 GB, close to 100% above 6 GB.

Careful: forcing 100% on a small card makes this exact problem worse. More budget than the card has makes the game overflow faster, not slower.

Clear the cache

A corrupted texture in the cache shows up as a texture that never loads, no matter how long you wait.

The folder is at %localappdata%\FiveM\FiveM.app\data\cache. Deleting means re-downloading the city's content on your next join — slow, but it fixes this case.

Virtual memory

Less known, and it helps on PCs with little RAM.

When system memory runs short, Windows uses the disk as backup. If that backup space is small, texture loading suffers along with it.

Worth checking that Windows is managing it automatically. On a tight machine, letting the system handle it usually beats a badly chosen fixed value.

What else weighs

City on a mechanical drive. Textures are read from disk during play. On a slow disk they arrive late — and what you see is the blur while they are on the way.

Programs consuming video memory. Browsers with many tabs and capture software consume it in the background. On a card at its limit, that is the difference.

Graphics driver. Outdated, or freshly updated and broken, causes texture loss. If it started after an update, rolling back is a legitimate test.

When it is not you

There is an honest limit: some cities exceed what any consumer card can hold.

A city adding thousands of clothing items, hundreds of vehicles and huge maps demands more memory than a normal card has. No setting genuinely fixes that — it only reduces how often it happens.

The test: join a lighter city. If textures load normally there and only yours is blurry, it is that server's content volume. Worth reporting on its Discord, since content optimization is the team's job.

The order

  1. Extended Distance Scaling at 0% — highest impact
  2. High Detail Streaming While Flying off
  3. Extended Texture Budget matched to your card, without forcing
  4. Clear the cache
  5. Close browser and capture software
  6. Graphics driver
  7. Test on a light city — separates you from the server

The first three are free, take two minutes, and solve most cases.
