How to Increase FPS in Free Fire PC: Complete 2026 Guide

Free Fire is one of the most played games in the world and one of the most complained about when it comes to stuttering on PC. The confusion starts because "Free Fire on PC" almost always means Free Fire running inside an Android emulator, and that changes everything: you are not optimizing a game, you are optimizing two stacked layers.

This guide is about finding out which of those layers is holding your FPS back before you start changing settings. In most cases there is a single bottleneck, and touching everything else changes nothing.

Find the Bottleneck Before Changing Anything

Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc, go to Performance and leave it in a second window while you play a full match. Watch four numbers:

  • CPU near 90% or above: processor bottleneck. This is the most common case with an emulator, because it translates Android instructions to your processor the whole time.
  • Memory above 85%: not enough RAM. Windows starts using the disk as memory, and that is what produces the long freeze mid-match.
  • Disk hitting 100% often: either the RAM issue above, or a mechanical hard drive. On an HDD, slow loading and texture hitching are expected.
  • Low GPU with high CPU: confirms the graphics card is not the problem. Swapping it would change nothing here.

Write down what you saw. Each section below fixes a different bottleneck, and applying everything at once only guarantees you will not know what worked.

If the game stutters only in the first minutes and then settles, something else is usually loading alongside it. If it starts fine and degrades over time, suspect heat.

Emulator or Native Game

Free Fire has no native Windows version. What exists are emulators such as BlueStacks, LDPlayer, MSI App Player and MuMu, and the Free Fire running inside them is the mobile build. What that means in practice:

  • Performance depends more on the processor than on the graphics card. A PC with a good GPU and a weak CPU will perform poorly.
  • CPU virtualization must be enabled, and it is the single setting that changes results the most. It lives in the BIOS as VT-x, Intel Virtualization Technology or SVM Mode, depending on the motherboard. Without it the emulator runs in a slow fallback mode, sometimes at half the performance, and it usually warns you in a message most people close without reading.
  • Windows Virtual Machine Platform and Hyper-V can conflict with some emulators. If your emulator complains about it, follow its own instruction: some ask you to enable it, others to disable it.
  • Third-party antivirus tends to watch the emulator process in real time. It is worth testing one match with the emulator folder added to the exclusion list.

Emulator Settings

These are the settings that move the needle, in the order worth doing them:

  • CPU cores: start with half of your physical cores. Giving the emulator all of them usually makes things worse, because Windows is left with no headroom and the competition creates stutter.
  • Memory: 3 GB to 4 GB. If your PC has 8 GB total, do not go past 4 GB or you trade one problem for another.
  • Renderer: test DirectX and OpenGL one at a time, in the same part of the game. The difference between them varies by graphics card and cannot be guessed without testing.
  • Resolution: 1280x720 performs better than 1920x1080, and in Free Fire the visual loss is small. It is the best ratio of gain to sacrifice on a modest PC.
  • Emulator FPS cap: match it to your monitor's refresh rate. Going past 60 on a 60 Hz monitor spends CPU for nothing.

Settings Inside Free Fire

  • Graphics quality: Smooth or Standard. The highest level barely changes how readable the screen is and costs a lot.
  • Frame rate: here it helps to understand what the menu offers. Higher frame rate options only appear when the emulator reports a compatible device, and enabling one does not guarantee the machine sustains it. Move up one step at a time and check whether the number stays stable during the match, rather than looking only at the peak.
  • Shadows and effects: off. They cost the most and help you spot an enemy the least.
  • Anti-aliasing: off on a modest PC.

What to Adjust in Windows

Power plan

The Balanced plan drops the processor's clock when it thinks the CPU is idle, and an emulator fools that calculation. Switch to High Performance under Settings, System, Power. On a laptop, do it with the charger plugged in: on battery the effect is small and the drain is large.

Free space and memory

Keep at least 10% of the drive free. With a full disk the page file has nowhere to grow, and the system freezes exactly when it needs memory most. Before opening the emulator, close browsers with many tabs, Discord and music players: each one competes for the same RAM.

Programs that start with Windows

In Task Manager's Startup tab, disable what you do not use daily. It is not the number of icons that matters, it is what keeps eating CPU after it opens.

Game Bar and background capture

Windows background recording is on by default and records all the time, even when you never asked for it. Turn it off under Settings, Gaming, Captures.

Process priority

With the emulator open, in Task Manager's Details tab, set the emulator process to High priority. Avoid Realtime: it can leave the system unresponsive.

Graphics driver

Update from the card manufacturer's website, not Windows Update, which usually ships an older build. If stuttering started right after a driver update, rolling back to the previous version is a legitimate test.

Heat: Why It Starts Well and Gets Worse

If the first matches run fine and from the third one the game starts choking, the problem is probably thermal. Processor and graphics card lower their own clocks to stay under the temperature limit, and performance drops with them. On laptops this is even more common, because the air outlet usually ends up pressed against a bed or a desk.

When the Problem Is Not FPS

It is worth separating two symptoms people call by the same name. A picture that jerks while the FPS counter drops is performance. A smooth picture where the character reacts late, or the enemy appears already shooting, is the network. When the Hardware Is the Limit

There is a point where tweaking stops helping. A dual-core processor without virtualization, 4 GB of total RAM or a mechanical hard drive as the system disk are situations where you can improve the experience but not transform the machine. Being honest about that saves your afternoon: in those cases the real gain comes from adding memory or moving to an SSD, not from one more emulator setting.
